First shut down the ecohotels, then think about the consequences

First the government shut down a series of ecohotels in Tulum, now they’re considering what to do about the consequences of all the bad press they’ve received.

Plan launched to offset Tulum’s bad image. By Veronica Alfonso. The Sub-secretary for Tourism Promotion stated that in order to counter Tulum’s bad press, they are contacting tour operators and travel agencies, so that tourism, especially European, is not affected…The agency said that the main concern from visitors is armed forces, as well as if the archeological area is still open. 1. Hello,

I am writing a story about the land dispute in Tulum. I would like to ask you a few questions. Is it possible for you to get in touch with me via email? My address is yemiwrites(at)

I look forward to hearing from you.

  2. I fully encourage the shutting down of some of the brothels in Tulum that openly run strip joints/and houes of prostitution in the middle of the town. They also operate all night long and the local police will do nothing , I have owened a place in Tulum for 12 years and yes it has earned its bad image , and when you complain the local authorities will do nothing to clean it up.

  3. Prostitution is a totally different issue to what’s happening on the beach. Yes, strip joints are scattered throughout the pueblo, and it would be ideal to get them clustered into a special zone that’s a little more removed from local family lives and other businesses. Have you taken this issue to the new government in Tulum? I think it’s more an issue of city planning than police. Good luck!

  4. Hi! I was surfing and found your blog post… nice! I love your blog. 🙂 Cheers! Sandra. R.
